ESPS Soda Fire Workshop with instructor Scott Proctor

June 20th, July 18th & July 19th

This is a workshop for those of you that have a home studio, or work in a community studio, and would like to explore high fire gas reduction Soda Firing. Current ESPS students may take workshop at a 25% discount. (email for promo code)

• This workshop will consist of 3 in studio workshops at ESPS to take place on Saturday nights from 6-9:30.

• Saturday June 20th 5:30-8:30pm. The first in studio session will be an in depth talk about the soda firing process including-

• Soda firing chemistry, the kiln, firing process, specific clays and clay body chemistry, forms that lend themselves to soda firing, glazes/slips for soda and application techniques.

• All pieces must be dropped off for bisque firing by Friday July 10th unless you plan to bisque fire in your home studio kiln. All pieces must be dry!

• Saturday July 18th 5:30-8:30pm. The second studio session at ESPS will be a glaze workshop where we glaze and wad all of the pieces you made at your home studio. All glazes and materials will be provided.

• Sunday July 19th 10-1:00pm. The third studio session we will load the kiln and talk about all considerations made with loading, spraying soda, and firing. Unloading date to be decided at this meeting.

• Students will be able to make and fire about 10 pieces depending on size.

• The cost for this workshop is $350 + tax and limited to 12 people. We need at least 10 for the workshop to not be canceled. In the case of a cancelation all participants will be fully refunded.
